Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module will provide participants with a framework to help them comprehend how energy, its availability and geographical presence, influences the globe and how different countries & cultures have responded in the past and are likely to respond in the future to the global energy challenges they face. Energy is embedded within the framework of international politics, therefore reaching an understanding of the politics of energy is critical for those wishing to understand the current state of energy and its interrelationship with politics, geography and global institutions. As nation state, corporation and institutional energy strategies develop and regulation grows in the face of the dual challenges of energy security and climate control, so operating with a critical understanding of how and why different countries act in the way they do will be critical for the leaders of the energy industry both now and in the future.
