Module content and teaching
The dissertation is designed to provide an opportunity to explore an area of special interest and demonstrate knowledge and practising the skills gained on the taught modules of the course.
Principal learning outcomes
Subject knowledge/Key Skills: Demonstrate knowledge of the main theories of Organizations and Information Systems and able to appreciate the strengths and limitations of them; Build links between theory and practice (drawing on the knowledge of various concepts and theories covered in the modules of the course). Cognitive Skills: Carry out analysis and critique; Use appropriate models and framework for conceptualizing and/or testing; Analyse of real business issues relating to information systems and to propose potential business solutions.Subject specific/Professional Skills: Carry out a research project and present the dissertation (a written report); Enhance expertise in the application of IT capabilities in a practice-based setting (external projects); Understand critical issues in information systems research. Demonstrate written communication skills & problem-solving skills.
Timetabled teaching activities
Total contact hours: 30 hrs (NIE) + 10hrs per student with assigned supervisor. Seminars per week: 2hrs x 5 weeks – Term 2/3. Tutorials per week/ supervision: 10hrs for each student. Module duration (weeks, if applicable): Term 3 + summer writing up. Other (please describe):e.g. distance-learning, intensive weekend teaching: Guided reading.
