## Module content and teaching

###### Principal aims

The purpose of this module is to provide a rigorous training in probability and stochastic processes for students who plan to specialize in this area or expect probability to feature as a principle tool in their subsequent research. The aim will be to develop problem-solving skills together with a deep understanding of the main ideas and techniques in probability theory via a series of challenging problem sheets.

###### Principal learning outcomes

Approach and solve challenging problems in probability with confidence and skill; Understand how to apply theoretical tools from probability theory in various applied settings; Have a deep understanding of some of the main ideas and tools in probability theory; Ability to present problem solutions in a transparent manner; Ability to participate in mathematical discussions as a group.
