Module content and teaching

Principal aims

 to introduce and explore the main theoretical perspectives and debates in International Political Economy;  to survey contemporary developments in important subject areas within International Political Economy and the policy issues that surround them;  to evaluate the contributions of the principal theoretical approaches and perspectives to understanding key issues and phenomena in the contemporary global political economy;  to provide information about the links between IPE and other cognate subject fields within the social sciences; and  to prepare students for possible doctoral training (MA only).

Principal learning outcomes

 a sound knowledge of the key concepts and theoretical debates in International Political Economy;  an ability to analyse, compare and critically evaluate fundamental assumptions and arguments in IPE and IPE-related literature;  an ability to construct and substantiate a critical argument;  good investigative and information retrieval skills, including familiarity with information technology;  good written communication skills in English;  good time management; and  an ability to devise viable essay topics.
