Module content and teaching
Principal aims
This module will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply theoretical models in economic and psychological sciences to real-world problems. It therefore complements the other modules through showing how formal models of judgement and decision-making can be applied outside the laboratory. The module therefore feeds into a key aim of the degree course overall, which is to enable students to apply models in a useful way.
Principal learning outcomes
Identify the key areas where theoretical models of judgement and decision-making either have been or potentially can be applied to real-world problems; approach new problems and show how insights from economic and psychological science can be brought to bear on them; critically evaluate the empirical success of real-world applications of the relevent theoretical models; understand how agent-based simulations can provide insight into the emergent behaviour of groups of individuals in social and economic contexts.
Timetabled teaching activities
1 lecture and 1 seminar per week, and two 2-hour laboratory sessions over the course of the module
Other essential notes
7 hours per week of self-directed study related to seminar preparation and background reading; 60 hours on assignments
