Principal aims

◾To introduce students to the cultural dimensions of International Development ◾To assess the significance of diverse ‘cultural turns’ as they have emerged within the broader history of International Development ◾To introduce and critically assess the dominant concepts, theories and arguments on the role of culture, arts and creative enterprise in International Development. ◾To map and analyze the key global institutions at work in the relevant domains of International Development

Principal learning outcomes

◾To understand the cultural dimensions of International Development within a broad historical framework ◾To possess a theoretical overview of the global discourses of International Development as they relate to questions of culture, art and creative enterprise ◾To use the conceptual tools required to understand policy and strategy documents ◾To analyse, evaluate and present the key arguments and strategic claims of individual and institutional actors in the field of International Development ◾To assess critically the potential of culture, the arts and creative enterprise as resources for International Development
