Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module covers the general concepts and techniques of statistics that apply to industrial and commercial disciplines and shows how these methods may be applied to specific problems. The philosophy of the module is to concentrate on the concepts and applications of statistical processes, rather than the mathematical theory behind them.

Principal learning outcomes

On completion, participants will be capable of: Identifying situations where statistical analysis can be usefully applied; Carrying out key statistical analyses without assistance; Recognising when additional, more specialised, analysis is required; Developing their statistical skill further where necessary; Using statistics for informed decision making.
