Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module provides the student with an open-ended research-based project carried out for a total period of 15, 30, 45 or 60 days and assessed through a report written by the student in the style of a scientific paper. The projects on offer ensure a broad coverage of chemistry.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to: complete individual COSHH assessments for a diverse range of experiments; Design an experiment to tackle a particular problem; Search the chemical literature for papers relevant to the problem; Write a report in the style of a scientific paper; Critically evaluate relevant publications.

Timetabled teaching activities

The duration of the module is flexible and run over 15, 30, 45 or 60 days.
