Module content and teaching
Agent-based systems offer a new paradigm for computer science, based around a strong theoretical foundation and with a large number of practical deployed applications. This course will provide a context for agent-based systems in terms of the recent and developing computing landscape of distributed information and processing resources, and will describe fundamental techniques and systems, illustrating them with real-world applications.
Principal learning outcomes
Students will gain an appreciation of basic agent-based systems and architectures, and an understanding of how they are used to construct small and large-scale applications.

25 one-hour lectures plus 5 one-hour seminars. (The actual organisation will vary from year to year.)

Prerequisites: For MEng students: CS255 Artificial Intelligence. For MSc students: a basic knowledge of Artificial Intelligence is required.
