Module content and teaching

Principal aims

Students registered for English Literature, Philosophy and Literature, English and Theatre Studies, English and French or English and Cultural Studies, may be permitted, at the discretion of the department, to write a dissertation of 8000-10000 words on a chosen research topic, instead of one taught module. It is recommended that you take this option in your final year. If you would like to write a dissertation as your option you must draw up an outline proposal, consult with your Personal Tutor about potential supervisors, obtain a supervisor's agreement and then fill out the proposal form. If your dissertation proposal is approved you will be advised in good time before you have to make your option choices.

Timetabled teaching activities

Students should expect a staff input of around 3-4 contact hours over the course of the Autumn and Spring terms (including meetings and emails). Supervisors will read and comment on drafts, chapters and plans submitted in advance of these scheduled meetings.
