Module content and teaching

Principal aims

To enable students to: 1) Develop an understanding of multi-disciplinary working associated with children and their families. 2) Demonstrate a critical understanding of case-based learning and reflection as a means to develop professional practice. 3) Understand the impact of minority status on childhood 4) Distinguish between professional positions and outcomes for children and their families. 5) Draw connections between value positions and research findings concerning children and professional practice. 6) Critically assess contemporary debates about children and their families in relation to support services. 7) Relate research findings to policy and practice concerning children and their families, and multi-agency practice.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module students should: 1) Possess an understanding of multi-disciplinary working with children and their families 2) Demonstrate a critical understanding case based learning and reflection as a means to develop professional practice. 3) Understand the impact of minority status on childhood 4) Be able to distinguish between professional positions and outcomes for children and their families 5) Recognise connections between value positions and research findings concerning children and professional practice 6) Have a critical understanding of contemporary debates about children and their families in relation to support services 7) Be able to relate research findings to policy and practice concerning children and their families and multi-agency practice.
