Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The importance of analogue circuit design techniques in modern electronic systems can not be over estimated. Arguably design is more heuristical than that for digital circuits. This module aims to explore approaches to design circuits particularly, but not exclusively, with an application to communications.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to: Analyse communication, VLSI, and RF circuits; Understand the classification of circuits and their appropriate use; Understand the practical issues behind circuit and component selection; Design circuits using the most appropriate method; Use computer packages to model circuits and signals; Use practical skills to optimise circuits.

Timetabled teaching activities

Spring. This module includes 20 hours of lectures, 3 hours of examples classes, 5 hours of seminars and 6 hours of laboratory sessions.Required self-study: 116 hours
