Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module aims to • develop a better understanding of how human communication works by examining the different modes through which we communicate; • develop awareness of the impact of communication modes on how communication happens and how they both facilitate and influence communication; • promote reflection on the forms of human communication thus enhancing students’ ability to communicate effectively using different communication modes.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to: • Understand how different communication modes facilitate and shape human communication; • Use their knowledge of theory and research to analyze the influence of communication modes on specific communicative events. • Understand how communication modes, languages and cultures influence the creation, communication and interpretation of meanings.

Two timetabled lecture hours per week plus one seminar hour per week in Term 2
