Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module will introduce students to key events and movements in India during the last quarter of the twentieth century through the close analysis of different kinds of 'primary sources'.

Principal learning outcomes

Students will discuss the broad themes of contemporary Indian history and their centrality to the broader study of global history, and critically evaluate methodological approaches to the study of contemporary history (personal testimony, literary forms, government documents, personal and institutional archives, video footage).

Timetabled teaching activities

Fifteen two-hour seminars. In addition, further teaching (two one-hour training sessions) will be delivered in the form of two resource training sessions.
