Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The aims of the module are to encourage students to develop an understanding of the general principles of criminal law and its operation within society, coupled with an awareness of the social and political forces which influence the scope of the law and its enforcement.

Principal learning outcomes

The first year serves as a platform for years 2 and 3, enabling you to develop not only the knowledge base and legal skills required, but also the necessary study skills.

Timetabled teaching activities

This is a year long module. The course will be taught by means of twice weekly large groups (lectures) and by a total of fourteen small group meetings (seminars). Attendance at all seminars is compulsory and a register will be taken.

Other essential notes

COMPULSORY 1st Year module for students registered for the LLB, and LLB (European) Law. BA Law/Sociology and BA Law/Business Studies degree students seeking exemption from Professional Law examinations must also take this module ( in their 2nd year or 3rd year respectively)
