Module content and teaching

Principal aims

"Contract Law is a full core module, principally for Intermediate-year students. This module replaces the contract part of the former first-year module in Basic Techniques of the Common Law and also the half module in Commercial and Consumer Contracting. "

Principal learning outcomes

"The course aims to help you develop further certain skills, in particular: case analysis (the subject is primarily a case-law one); ""getting behind the cases"" to work out what the courts appear actually to be doing, which is not always the same as what they say they are doing; synthesis of law from a series of cases; problem analysis and the application of law to facts; legal writing skills (the assessment will ask you to read a number of cases and apply the law to a hypothetical problem); theoretical analysis; economic analysis (see above); policy evaluation."

Timetabled teaching activities

Lectures and seminars, terms 1 and 2.
