Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module will strengthen reading and writing skills and will also reinforce the communicative skills acquired during previous study of the Spanish language. Students will gain further insights into the cultures and societies of the Spanish-speaking world. The module will offer a more advanced study of language structure and syntax and concentrate on using the target language for discussing and analysing topical issues in Spanish-speaking countries.

Principal learning outcomes

"By the end of the module, students will have: developed competence in a broad range of complex or technical language tasks performed in a wide variety of work and social contexts; improved and consolidated the four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) at a higher intermediate level; increased their knowledge of grammar, syntax and register; practised reading and translating skills; studied different aspects of life in Spanish-speaking countries with a view to developing an appreciation of contemporary life in a range of language registers. "

Timetabled teaching activities

One two-hour language class each week, plus at least 3 hours structured independent learning each week. Commencing Term 1, week 2.
