Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module will give the students the chance to spend some time learning and reinforcing the basics of the language. It will offer an opportunity for students not specialising in foreign languages to improve their communicative competence as a supplement to their studies in other spheres. The objectives of the module are to enable the students to develop competence in a range of language tasks performed in familiar work and social contexts, to extend skills in reading and listening comprehension and to consolidate and extend the knowledge and use of Russian grammar and syntax.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module students will have: developed competence in a broad range of language tasks performed in a variety of contexts improved and consolidiated reading, listening, speaking and writing skills at a reasonably independent level; consolidated and extended their knowledge and use of Russian grammar and syntax.

Timetabled teaching activities

One two-hour language class each week, plus at least 3 hours structured independent learning each week. Commencing Term 1, week 2.
