Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module follows Arabic 2 and aims at developing students' skills further in the comuunicative competences of Modern Standard Arabic and in the cultural and social framework of the target language. It introduces colloquial spoken varieties so that students can appreciate the main differences between these and the standard language.

Principal learning outcomes

Express views, feelings, likes and dislikes in a variety of social and cultural contexts appropriate to the level, making use of the structural and grammatical topics learnt. Develop reading fluency by understanding the various structures of the selective texts. Understand dialogues on common themes. Produce meaningful texts based on the understanding established from the structural and grammatical areas covered. Express opinions and feelings.

Timetabled teaching activities

3 hours language classes per week, plus at least 3 hours structured independent learning each week. Commencing Term 1, week 2.
