Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module focuses on basic numerical methods for problems arising in mathematics and physics. The important concepts of iteration, convergence, accuracy and stability will be covered. Through implementation of computer algorithms, techniques studied will include Lagrange interpolation, Gaussian quadrature and solving ordinary differential equations by the Runge-Kutta method. It aims to introduce the approximation techniques used in tackling mathematical problems which do not yield to exact forms of analysis.
