Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The aim of this module is to allow you to study a new language in ways which will broaden your educational experience and which will open up new ways of communicating with people in your professional and personal life.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module you should be able to develop basic productive and receptive skills in BSL in order to be able to take part in a coherent conversation on everyday topics in the context of: expressing a variety of language functions; talking about yourself, e.g. finger-spelling your name, describing your family and friends ; talking about your work and everyday, predictable events and routines; expressing likes and dislikes and other simple emotions; describing things and people using numbers, colours, size, shape; acquiring a range of vocabulary for different topics, including those specific to your own circumstances and your chosen field of interest.
