Principal aims

The module aims to: *Develop an understanding of major ideas related to international security broadly defined; *Explore some landmark conceptual works related to international security; *Offer an understanding of the issues surrounding major debates in international security; *Analyse some key current ethical dilemmas in world politics; *Assess some contemporary debates about policy.

Principal learning outcomes

On completion of this module, you should be able to: Demonstrate an appreciation of some key debates in international security; *Critically discuss the characteristics of these major debates; *Assess the strengths and weaknesses of nine key debates; *Critically analyse, both orally and in writing, these current issues; *Achieve a sense of more detailed options awaiting you in years 2 and 3
