Secretariat Opportunities

The Education Policy and Quality team would like to share an opportunity to act as part of a Faculty secretariat team for a Faculty Education Committee or a Board of Faculty.

These opportunities will allow insight into academic governance at Warwick and would suit particularly someone working in a role supporting teaching and learning in an academic department who wished to gain experience of wider academic governance, or alternatively someone working in central professional services who might benefit from strengthening their secretariat skills.

The secretariat work would be for one academic year or more, and would be done alongside the post-holder’s core role. On average, the commitment is likely to be around four working days per term. The roles involve working with the Secretary and Chair of a committee to ensure the efficient delivery of their objectives. Typical tasks are to draft agendas and minutes, assist with the review of papers, correspond with members of the committee and follow up on agreed actions.

Previous role holders have benefitted as follows:

  • opportunity to gain professional secretariat experience;
  • advance warning of proposed policy/regulatory changes;
  • appreciation of Faculty business and interests;
  • development of close links with colleagues in the EPQ team;
  • chance to interact with colleagues in the wider University

We are looking for colleagues with potential to be able to write high quality minutes, who have excellent attention to detail and are sufficiently well organised to be able to accommodate the work within the constraints of their permanent role. Colleagues of any grade are welcome to apply, noting that the written support of your line manager would be required, including their confirmation that you had the ability to work at the appropriate level.
