This paragraph summarizes what stands out for the candidate about the company. He could have been more specific here, picking out some aspect of the company’s work he particularly admires. You may be able to find a current news item involving the company and comment on that – this shows you understand some issues facing the company now.

The candidate highlights specific modules that he feels are relevant to the job role.

The job description mentions “practical solutions to complex problems” and the candidate is demonstrating his abilities in this area.

The candidate here demonstrates his ability to work in teams. He could have been more specific about what “he” did within the team with a specific example.

The candidate is including really good evidence here that he has understood some of the processes that are crucial to the success of an engineering project.

It is good to finish with the expectation of some action, but avoid sounding over-confident. For instance, “I expect to hear from you soon regarding the next stage in the process.” would put some employers off.

This student has suggested that this company can support his career. Remember, organisations want to know what you can offer them so consider writing about how your skills and knowledge might support current issues and initiatives for the organisation you are writing to.
