In your application you may want to think about demonstrating qualities such as flexibility, adaptability and the ability to problem solve. In her cover letter the candidate demonstrates she can juggle training and coursework and resolve difficult situations as a camp counsellor.

These are two things you will want to emphasise, providing evidence from the past that you have this “passion” and “desire”. The candidate, Siobhan, makes reference to her own passion at the end of the 4th paragraph of her cover letter.

If any of these things is particularly important to you, you could include in your cover letter, stating specifically “why”. Siobhan talks about how attractive “the variety of business areas covered” is to her in the 2nd paragraph of her cover letter.

This is an indication that transferrable skills from extracurricular and work experience will be considered if you can communicate clearly how you used skills and achieved results.

You should provide evidence of this on your CV.

The words in bold here are skills and qualities required for the role. It is crucial that you give evidence of how you have demonstrated these in the past. Siobhan covers these aspects in both her CV and cover letter using many of these words. She communicates her ambition in her cover letter, talking of a role where she will be “pushed to develop….”
