Kirby Corner Car Park project: alternatives to driving

If you already don’t drive to work, or are considering it as an option once work on Kirby Corner Car Park starts, here are the options open to you:

Multi-mode parking permits

If you have a car parking permit, consider switching it to a Multi-Mode parking permit, which offers you a way to pay only for the days that you park here without paying the full Pay and Display parking price.

Multi-Mode will make it easier for you to try some of the options below on other days.

Cycling

Those who cycle will experience only minimal disruption. Cycle storage will be re-located to the area next to the outdoor section of the University House restaurant. Shower facilities will remain in place as usual.

There will be clearly signposted diversions in place whenever the works affect the route you’d usually take to University House.

During phase 1 of the project, cycle access to the back of University House from Kirby Corner Road will be unavailable, but access via Gibbet Hill Road to the back, or via Kirby Corner Road to the front will remain. During phase 2, there will be no cycle access to University House from Gibbet Hill Road, but the back will be accessible via the NAIC path and both entrances via Kirby Corner Road.

Bus

Give the bus a try on us! We have some National Express swift cards, pre-loaded with credit for 2 return journeys, available to staff who'd like to leave their car at home. It can be used on the National Express 11, 11U and 12X services, covering Coventry, campus, Kenilworth and Leamington.

Request free bus journeys

There will be no changes to existing bus services during the works. If you’re considering switching to bus travel from driving, take a look at our list of services to campus to see which would best suit you.

It’s worth noting that if the Campus Bus Interchange is too long a walk away from your building, the Shuttlebus A service collects from there and goes straight to University House.

Car sharing

We run a staff car share scheme, WarwickShare, that can help you to find someone you could share your journey to campus with.

Reserved WarwickShare parking bays will be available throughout construction in car park 16, and there are others just over Kirby Corner Road from the front of University House.

Train

If you commute from further away and live close to a railway station, there are options that may work for you:

  • Take a train to Canley station, and then take the free campus Shuttlebus "C" service from there to University House.
  • Take a train to Coventry station, and get the National Express 12X service direct to campus.
  • Take a train to Tile Hill station and get the National Express 18A service to Cannon Park, or the Travel De Courcey 43 service to the campus Bus Interchange.
