Virtual Viva

A huge congratulations to Humeyra @Warwick_Edu who successfully defended her PhD Thesis via a virtual viva (passing with minor corrections).

Humeyra who's Thesis was a comparative study examining formation of value of respect among students in Turkey/England, a significant contribution to Islamic Ed Studies, said about her virtual viva - "I desired to do my viva face to face but because of the new circumstances I couldn’t. However, I can say that virtual one was almost same. Everything went really good. I didn’t feel we are in different places and using our laptops. I also want to thank you for your organisation and it was useful to test the connection in the morning before the viva. It made me more comfortable as well."

Dr Abdullah Sahin from Warwick's Department from Educations Studies commented - "Both the student and I, the supervisor of the project, initially had some fears that the impersonal nature of a virtual viva could disadvantage the candidate. However, the whole experience turned out to be almost no different from holding a usual face to face viva. The student, chair and examiners all share the same feelings. But it is important to trial the equipment at least a day before so that all is ready to go."
