A week of opportunities to remind us of the benefits to our research and ourselves from paying attention to our wellbeing.

Supervisors

Monday 7th December

Checking in with PGRs: Join our informal chat and meet other researchers. We would love to hear about how you are getting on with your work, supervisors and colleagues and whatever else is on your mind.  

 

Tuesday 8th December

Write Here, Write Now Online- Are you struggling to concentrate and lacking in motivation? Is your writing constantly interrupted by your inbox, social media and trips to the kitchen? 

Decolonising your research - Reading with Researchers Reading with a purpose and an ability to network and learn something along the way?

PG Tips Online- Keep in touch with your postgraduate community! The Postgraduate Community Engagement Team and one of our Postgrad Mentors will be online via Microsoft Teams to answer questions, discuss any issue, or just to provide a friendly face to chat to. 

Wellbeing Masterclass- Feeling good and functioning well- This masterclass provides you with a snapshot of strategies and tips you can use to improve your own wellbeing. You can explore the topic in your own time with our masterclass video. The aim is to give you tools you can use to reflect on your own experiences during, and after you have taken part. 

Supporting PGRs mental health and wellbeing: guidance for supervisors

This session aims to help you understand the pressures that PGRs face during their postgraduate education and the risks that these pressures pose to their mental health and wellbeing. This session will also provide you with information on how you can support PGR mental health and wellbeing and understand the difference between urgent and non-urgent mental health. You will also have an opportunity to share your experiences with other supervisors and learn about what available support exists at the university level and beyond.

Wednesday 9th December

Bake your research-You’ve done posters, conference presentations, written about your research – now cook it!! A chance to show off your baking skills and talk about your research or your job.

Human Library Online- For the first time, the University of Warwick is holding its Human Library event online! The Human Library is a unique opportunity to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. By attending, you will have the opportunity to engage in open, honest, and respectful conversation with Human Books and learn about the life experience of others. 

Resilience for researchers- Research is challenging, not just in itself but in its impact on our wellbeing as researchers. There are techniques that we can apply to help us recognise our stress and to maintain our wellbeing.    

Masterclass for Post Graduate Research Students- Looking after your wellbeing- provide a snapshot of strategies and tips that you can use to look after your wellbeing. The session will provide you with advice on how to manage some of these and other challenges that may arise during your Post Graduate course. 

Study Happy Mindfulness- Mindfulness practice is one of the 5 ways to wellbeing recommended by the NHS. Doing regular mindfulness exercises can help manage daily stress and has impact areas of the brain related to memory retrieval, decision making, and outward attention. 

 

Thursday 10th December

Research Refresh- Join us on Microsoft Teams for a virtual coffee break! We'll be chatting about the best ways to work from home, and how to stay productive and get research and writing done in the current situation - plus it's a great way for you to keep in touch with other REx regulars! 

Creative Thursdays- Join the Library Online Lounge for some creative and festive ways to take a break complete with arts, crafts and cooking!

Wellbeing Masterclass- Managing Change-Our expectations of this academic year will likely have been different to the current reality. However, there are still positives steps we can take to help manage this change and look after ourselves in the process, and there are still lots of opportunities available to make the most of. The Managing Change Masterclass provides a brief overview of these strategies and the steps you can take to make the most of your time whilst looking after your wellbeing. 

PGR for PGR mental health and wellbeing: peer-support session-This session aims to help you understand the pressures that PGRs face during their postgraduate education and the risks that these pressures pose to their mental health and wellbeing.

Friday 11th December

Imposter syndrome- Worried that they might find out that you're not as bright and capable as they thought you were? Think that they meant to give someone else the research funding and they sent the email to you incorrectly? You’re not alone! Learn to banish your fears so you can enjoy your research with confidence.

Rolf’s Cat Café (virtual)- Join us and Rolf in the Events channel in Library Online Lounge for a special holiday edition of the Online Cat Cafe.
