Jo Clarkson - Market Research & Insight Manager

Jo Clarkson
“I love finding out what people think and how we can improve things for our students and other audiences”

A little about me

I studied English at Leicester University, then a masters in Marketing at Leeds University where I developed a passion for market research! I started my career in the pharmaceutical industry, researching new drugs to develop, then moved into Higher Education where I set up market research functions for the University of Bradford and Liverpool University. I’ve worked across a broad range of insight projects, including student satisfaction, service improvement, course portfolio development, student recruitment strategy development and setting up of branch campuses.

You might be surprised to know…

I very rarely wear matching socks (life’s too short to spend it pairing socks!)

A bit about my role

My role is really varied, gathering insight from a wide range of stakeholders to inform decisions we make in MarComms and across the University. I can be running a journey mapping workshop in the morning and moderating a focus group with students in the afternoon! I love finding out what people think and how we can improve things for our students and other audiences.

The best thing about working in MarComms at Warwick is…

I work with the best people, they care about what they do and are experts in their areas!

I applied for my role in MarComms at Warwick because…

of the opportunity to shape the role of market research at Warwick. The University had just gone through a branding project, and there was lots of interesting insights to gather on the University’s brand. I had also been told really good things about the team at Warwick!

Working at Warwick feels like…

It’s a university that’s different to others - it has the academic excellence much older universities tend to be known for, as well as a great reputation for innovation and employability.
