Bronze is a base level award to recognise departments and universities that have in place a full range of policies and procedures to ensure family friendly working and transparent recruitment and promotion procedures. Recognise that in addition to institution-wide policies, the department is working to promote gender equality and to identify and address challenges particular to the department and discipline.
Gold is an award for significant and sustained progress against plans identified at silver level.

Athena SWAN SilverSilver is an award for individual Schools and Departments to recognise that they are implementing university policies and making progress in addressing challenges specific to their discipline. In addition to the future planning required for Bronze department recognition, Silver department awards recognise that the department has taken action in response to previously identified challenges and can demonstrate the impact of the actions implemented.
