In Memory of Janet McErlane 06/04/1957 – 26/09/2018
It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of our former colleague Janet McErlane, a valued member of the Finance Office for over 30 years.
Janet first joined the University’s Central Finance Team before moving to the Procurement and Insurance Office where she remained until her retirement in 2013. Her valued contributions supported the University through many insurance renewals and broker engagements and throughout her career Janet shared the wealth of her experience with junior members of the team. Janet was a respected and valued colleague throughout her time at the University.
The University and Finance Office extends its thoughts and sympathies to the McErlane family, friends and former colleagues of Janet at this difficult time of loss.
Tracey Grant recalls her memories of working with Janet:
I worked with Janet McErlane in finance in the 1990’s. We (Janet, Jackie and myself) were based in the end office on the top corridor of Senate House. We supported the Earned Income Group with management accounts and ledger reconciliation. It was a wonderful time and the three of us worked really well together. Janet had an infectious smile and Jackie had a distinctive laugh. Somehow we managed to make even morning tea (in our grand aluminium tea pot) a reason to enjoy work. I remember laughing with Janet so much over a staff housing reconciliation that it hurt. I don’t remember why is was funny – it just was. The Finance Office Christmas Lunch always started with drinks in our office. Janet would be immaculately dressed and managed to turn wearing tinsel in to an art form. I will always have really fond and happy memories of us “three amigos”.
