Anyone who uses higher hazard category lasers e.g. Class 3R, Class 3B and Class 4 must understand the associated risks and be competent to manage and carry out work safely. Appropriate training must be completed (Laser Safety Awareness and or Laser Safety Management), these can be arranged through the University Laser Safety Officer.
In addition those who use certain types of laser applications will find some useful supporting information provided in a series of short animated videos. The content deals mainly with laser applications in a typical research laboratory rather than a 'manufacturing workshop' setting but the safety management principles are universally relevant.
The videos are stand-alone modules but watching them in the numerical module sequence is recommended: the videos have been developed by the National Physical Laboratory and have been offered free of copyright to academic research institutions. They are MP4 files: if you have any diffculties accessing the folder please ensure that Quicktime Player is installed and that your browser settings are not preventing access.
