How do I keep information safe on campus?

  • Lock your computer when you're not at your desk by pressing control, alt and delete (all at once), then pressing enter (mac users, see below). See more....
  • Create a strong password: making it 8 characters or more long, use lower and upper case letters, numbers, and punctuation, and change it as soon as you think someone else knows it. See more...
  • Lock the door and windows when you leave the office
  • Clear your desk of any sensitive information when you leave the office, and lock it away
  • Only save the data in your department's shared drive or your H: drive (the desktop is not backed up so you may lose your important data if you have computer trouble)
  • If you need to throw out printed sensitive information, shred it and put it in a confidential waste sack.
