What should I include in my personal statement?

Is there anything in particular I should include in my personal statement?

Answer:

The main thing to focus on in your personal statement is your interest in the course itself, why you want to study the subject. Other topics such as your interests, wider reading or other experience should be related to why you want to study the course. Normally we suggest that around 75% of the personal statement should be about the course and 25% should be about extra-curricular activities but try to relate everything to why you want to study that subject at university level.

Try not just to write a list of things you do, it is better to write about a few things you can reflect on in relation to the skills you have learnt and the relevance to the course.

If you applying for a course which combines more than one subject, try to give equal attention to all the subjects. You should also try to link them together, show how you think the study of each subject will complement the other.
