CANCELLED - Bluecat migration to Infoblox DNS/DHCP replacement servers, from 19th March 2020
Due to the coronavirus situation, we need to postpone this migration. We have not taken this decision lightly, but given the VC's announcement, the fact we have members of the team in self-isolation, and our suppliers unable to travel, we thought it would be prudent to postpone rather than to risk the DNS/DHCP service at this critical time. We will be re-assessing the situation in a couple of weeks with the intention of re-arranging a date as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can continue to make DNS/DHCP changes as usual.
We're updating network equipment at the University. The first task is to replace the BlueCat servers with new equipment from a supplier called Infoblox. This is because the BlueCat servers will shortly be unsupported by their manufacturer, which could leave us unable to fix them should they fail.
What will happen
The information on the BlueCat servers will be migrated to the new equipment. The functionality on the new Infoblox servers is as close a match to the older BlueCat servers as we could achieve.
What you need to do
Please let us know by Friday 6th March if you use any API integration with the BlueCat servers (any scripts or programs that automatically access these boxes) or run your own DNS/DHCP service.
If you need to make DNS/DHCP changes, please note that from:
- 5pm on Thursday 19th to Thursday 26th March there is a change freeze any change you make will NOT be migrated to the new equipment.
- Thursday 26th March to Sunday 26th April, existing admins can request a change via a form within the helpdesk system.
- Monday 27th April you will be able to make changes on the new Infoblox servers.
Training on how to add DNS/DHCP entries on the Infoblox servers will be arranged. We will post details on this news page.
