The way we log-in to University services is changing - replacing Web Sign-On with Microsoft’s Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).Multi-Factor Authentication is being rolled out during the summer and will be in place for the Autumn term. It will help us to keep all University accounts more secure.
What does this mean for you?
This means that over the next couple of months, you will be prompted to log in to the University system using a new or different authentication method.
This requires action -
The simplest user-authentication options for MFA are:
• an authenticator app on your mobile phone• an SMS text message received on your phone
• If these options are not available to you, the HelpDesk can provide a one-time code.
You will need one of these methods to log-in to teaching computers or student workspace computers, so please remember to:

The changes will improve our security and user-experience by simultaneously checking:
- The location of the user logging-on – on campus, off-campus, in the UK or overseas
- The sensitivity of the application being accessed – such as HR, Wellbeing or Finance
- The kind of device being used – a managed device, a personal mobile phone – and its security status.
