Retiring as end-of-life: Academic Data Store (ADS) Service from August 2020

The Academic Data Store (ADS) due to its age is retiring in August. Applying the necessary hardware and OS upgrades has become very difficult. As is, managing the movement of the data used tightly enough for current data regulations.

There are alternative options for the handful of departments who use this service.

Replacement of legacy print servers, Sat 1st Feb 2020

We will replace the legacy SafeCom print servers with newly commissioned versions between 08:00 and 12:00 on Saturday 1st February 2020. The benefits of doing this include increased capacity and improved future proofing.

We expect the impact on users to be minimal: uncollected printing on the old servers will be deleted, as usually happens after 24 hours.

How we share ITS News

We are moving to a model of communication where we share news on our website and would like our readers to subscribe to this news. We are making this change in response to feedback on email volume and the difficulty of maintaining accurate email lists reflecting staff changes.

You will see our news stories now have tags. Using tags will allow us to tailor our news to specific groups of readers.

We intend to stop manually sending emails related to our news. We will contact Heads of Department and Departmental Administrators periodically to check that the right people are receiving alerts.
