Hola VPN update: how to remove it
We warned of the dangers of using the Hola VPN Peer-to-Peer service – popular for watching video content online via a web browser plugin or mobile device app – on 31 July and 23 October. As stated then, this service is unsafe and devices using it will be blocked from the University network.
If you have Hola installed, it must be fully removed. This requires the wiping of your device to prevent it from reinstalling itself. You can either:
- Wipe your own device, should you feel confident to do so, then visit us at the IT Help Desk on the first floor of the Library for us to confirm successful removal.
- Book an appointment with our commercial partners, XMA, who are based on campus and able to remove it from your personally owned devices for you. XMA currently charge £30 for unlimited on-campus hardware and software support throughout the academic year (offer valid until 30 November 2019).
