Copy a portfolio template in Mahara

Mahara is an online or e-portfolio that is used to record evidence of lifelong learning. It is used at Warwick to promote learner-centered and reflective learning. Some examples of where you might encounter it might be:

  • An engineering 'logbook' recording daily experiences, learning outcomes, evidence of best practice and project planning
  • IATL portfolio to record evidence of understanding and use of design thinking concepts, research, and practices
  • Law portfolio recording reflections, evaluations, and materials for public legal education placements and projects
  • PGCE students 'Professional Development Portfolio'

What is a Mahara template?

A template in Mahara can be a single page, or it may be a collection of pages. These pages can

How do I copy the template?

If you have been sent a 'secret URL' by your tutor

  1. You must be signed into Warwick single sign on, or logged into Mahara.
  2. Click on the secret URL or paste it into the web browser address bar and press enter.
  3. Select Copy
  4. Select Collection. This will copy the template into your Mahara space and prompt you to rename it before saving. You can also
    change the description to better reflect your project.
  5. Click Next: Edit collection pages at the bottom of the page, then Done on the next page.
  6. The template copy will now appear in Mahara under your ‘Pages and Collections’ section.
  7. Click the title to open the template copy.

If you have been provided with a link to the template in Moodle

  1. Login to Moodle
  2. Navigate to the Moodle Module space
  3. Click on the link to the Mahara template.
  4. Select Copy
  5. Select Collection. This will copy the template into your Mahara space and prompt you to rename it before saving. You can also
    change the description to better reflect your project.
  6. Click Next: Edit collection pages at the bottom of the page, then Done on the next page.
  7. The template copy will now appear in Mahara under your Pages and Collections section.
  8. Click the title to open the template copy.

If you have the name of the template

  1. Login to Mahara
  2. Click Create on the dashboard
  3. Click Copy
  4. Type the name of the template into the search box and click Search. This will return a list of matching items.
  5. Click Copy page or Copy collection (if the template contains more than one page). The message 'Processing' will appear whilst the template is copying into your account.
  6. When the process complete, you will be prompted to rename it before saving. You can also change the description to better reflect your project.
  7. Click Next: Edit collection pages at the bottom of the page, then Done on the next page.
  8. The template copy will now appear in Mahara under your Pages and Collections section.
  9. Click the title to open the template copy.

You can return to the pages and collections section at any time by using the main menu at the top right (under Create) or clicking on the Create button on your dashboard.
