The Service includes...

  • Identification and co-ordination of software requirements across the University
  • Evaluation of suppliers and usage of products, collaborating with other universities where appropriate
  • Negotiation of preferred supplier and preferred product agreements (with other universities or purchasing consortia, where possible)
  • Purchase of software licenses in respect of centrally managed software
  • Management of the University’s central Academic Software Budget & Campus Agreement
  • Management of the portfolio of license agreements – ensuring that best value is achieved and timely renewal of required licenses
  • Management of the ITS Software Download Service – ensuring centrally provided software is readily available to staff and students across the University
  • Provision of Third-Line support of Academic software and escalation to vendor support on behalf of customers where necessary
  • Provision of advice to University members regarding licensing, relating to centrally provided software
  • Liaison with colleagues within the IT Training service to promote the use of academic software for teaching and research
  • Maintenance of a Definitive Media Library in respect of centrally funded software resources, in line with ITIL best practice guidelines
