Calendar page template

Use the calendar page template to show events on your website.

A Calendar page template

The benefits of publishing events via a calendar rather than a blank page template include the following features:

  • Embed an events feed in another web page, which automatically updates when you publish or edit events.
  • Tag events with keywords such as ‘Conferences’ or ‘Postgraduate’ to enable visitors to filter busy calendars by their interests.
  • Filter event feeds by tag, which is useful for sending a subset of events to other pages in your site, such as research events or announcements for current students.
  1. Go to the page under which you want to create the calendar.

  2. Go to Edit > Create a new page:

The SiteBuilder page 'Edit' menu, with the 'Create a new page' option highlighted

Note: To create new pages, you need edit or admin permissions for the parent page.

  3. Select Change page template to expand the options, then select Calendar:

The 'Create new page' screen, with the option to create a calendar page highlighted

  4. Set the calendar options:

    Calendar settings

    • Default view: Choose how the page will initially appear to visitors. In most cases, visitors can choose a different view if they wish. The only exception to this is the Tiles option, which displays events as tiles with thumbnails. This view is set in the page properties, and cannot be selected or changed by visitors to the page.

    • Select Show social media sharing buttons to display a Share this button at the bottom of each item. Visitors who select the button will have the option to share an item on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or via email.

Note: The Share this button will only appear if the page's view permissions have been set to public. For details on how to make a page public, see our guidance on Permissions in SiteBuilder.

    • Week length: Select from 7 days (including weekends), or Weekdays only.

    • Select the check-box if you want the calendar to Display time in 24-hour format.

    • Choose whether you want Term week number display to appear in grid-based views and which format to use.

    • Use the Tag list position drop-down to select whether you want the calendar's tag list to appear at the top or side of the page.

    • Optionally, select Hide tags with no upcoming events to have the page display only tags which have future events associated.

  5. Enter the rest of the page properties: URL, Page heading, Title bar caption and Link caption. For more guidance on these properties, see our article on how to create a new blank page.

  6. Select Create new page.

  7. Follow the link in the confirmation to view your new page, or select Return to edit section to go back to the Editing screen for the parent page.
