Copy page contents (Components Editor)

The Components Editor enables you to replace one page's content (the target page) with the content from another page (the source page). If the target page is not a Components Editor page, it will be converted as part of the process.

You can, for example, make a copy of a complex page (a homepage, for example) that you want to convert to the Components Editor. You can then convert and work on the copy, publishing as many times as needed until you are happy with it, then overwrite the contents of the original with the Components Editor version.

  1. Navigate to the page you want to transfer content from (the source page).

  2. Go to Edit > More:

The SiteBuilder 'Edit' menu, with the 'More' option highlighted

  3. On the Current page tab, select Copy page contents:

  4. You see the Copy page contents screen:

  5. Enter the URL of the page you want to copy content to (the target page) in the Overwrite contents of this page box in one of the following ways:

    • Copy and paste the part of the target page's URL that comes after https://warwick.ac.uk.

    • Select the Find a page button to open a page picker, which will automatically insert the correct URL.

  6. If the source page has files, such as images, saved beneath it and used on the page, ensure you keep the Copy files to target page checkbox selected.

Note: Copying page content will not overwrite files on the target page with the same name as files on the source page. Make sure to check the page after copying to ensure that all files and images are correct.

  7. Select Copy page contents. If the target page is a Components Editor page, its contents are overwritten. If the target page is not a Components Editor page, you see a warning message informing you that the conversion process cannot be reversed. SiteBuilder also displays the target page's current appearance, so you can be confident you have selected the correct page:

Select Copy page contents again to proceed, converting the target page to the Components Editor and overwriting its contents. If you want to stop the process without making changes to the target page, select Cancel.

Note: You are able to view previous versions of a page that has been converted to the Components Editor, but only versions of the page previously published with the Components Editor can be restored. If the target page was already a Components Editor page, you can restore previous versions from before you copied the source page content to it.
