Window on Warwick: Mental Health and Wellbeing

Mental health problems can affect anyone, at any time. This session will cover some of the factors which may be involved in the development of mental health difficulties, some of the signs to look out for, and how to help in the first instance.

Who is it for?

Staff who are in positions where they are in contact with students and staff who may be experiencing mental health difficulties.

Session Objectives:

We all have a state of mental and physical health which fluctuates over time and is dependent upon a number of factors, some of which are under our control. Just as some individuals are susceptible to physical ill health, so some individuals are more susceptible to being affected by mental health difficulties.

You will learn about some of the factors which lead to the development of mental health difficulties, how to respond appropriately to individuals who are exhibiting signs of distress and also what you can do to improve your own mental health.

By the end of the session you will have:

  • Gained an understanding of some of the ways in which modern life can exacerbate mental health problems, for students in particular
  • Understood some of the common warning signs that a student may be experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Gained some awareness of what you can do to help vulnerable students
  • Gained some awareness of what you can do to improve your own mental health
