This is a joint session to provide an update on the University’s response to new regulation:
The Modern Slavery Act came into force in 2015 and is intended to place UK amongst the leading countries taking action against slavery worldwide. The University is covered by the Act and this session will provide an update on the action taken to date what those involved in the engagement of suppliers need to know.
New tax rules (IR35) come into force as of 6th April 2017 impacting on the engagement of Personal Services Companies (individuals paid through their own companies) and whether these are treated as employment arrangements or vendor contracts. If deemed employment arrangements, appropriate tax and social security deductions must be made. This session will provide an overview of the action taken to date, the considerations to be undertaken and the process to be adopted going forward.
Pauline Mealing - Acting Head of Procurement and Insurance and Jo Ray - Head of Tax
