Quotes from previous Leadership in Action delegates:

Feedback from the November 2015 cohort
"The leadership in action helped me to identify what I should and should not do when I lead in different settings. It has also helped me identify good practises and role models among my colleagues. It is a valuable experiential training course that enables academics from different departments to share their ideas on leading in a higher education context."
Dr Charikleia Tzanakou, Research Fellow, Institute for Employment Research

"In light of an international interdisciplinary project soon to start, I signed up for the Leadership in Action to better equip myself with the skills required to lead the project smoothly. The course is structured well for this purpose, covering leadership at a distance, leading in a crisis and leading in order to get results. With a learn by doing approach, Sandy sets up relevant scenarios in which we are able to put into practice the skills being discussed, and constructive feedback in a secure environment. Beyond leadership skills alone, the course has been invaluable in picking up best practice hints and tips on project management, assertiveness and university governance."
Dr Peter Gammon, Senior Research Fellow, Engineering

"I’d highly recommend the leadership in action workshop. For a person with no prior leadership and possibly unsure of their ability to lead, the role plays include briefs that enable the “leader” to start the scenario and after that everything just flows. If you have prior leadership experience, the workshop materials, role plays and discussions offer numerous tips making it impossible not to learn new leadership skills."
Dr Peter Kimani, Assistant Professor, Health Sciences, WMS

Feedback from the June 2015 cohort
“I attended it last year and found it worthwhile and useful. The course is spread over three weeks and this is the bit I found most useful because it allows one to think and reflect on what happened previously and how to approach the situation next time.”
Dr Siew Wan Hee - Research Fellow, Health Sciences, Warwick Medical School

"Leadership in Action is a high-quality, well-facilitated and stimulating set of workshops which provides an excellent combination of practical and theoretical approaches as well as professional and social networking across the university and across disciplines. For me, it was a tailor-made opportunity to broaden my skills base and to reflect on the various aspects of my role as a researcher at Warwick."
Dr Elisabeth Arweck - Senior Research Fellow, CES

"I completed the leadership in action course last year with initial concern. Sandy was extremely hospitable and the sessions flew by! With a great mix of theory and practical applications we were able to quickly embed theories into reality. Whilst I didn't always complete the homework tasks, they were relevant and added value to the following sessions. We came away with sharpened skills and an extended friendship network. In short an excellent course". Jonty Leese - Teaching Fellow, Centre for Professional Education

"It’s a great opportunity to meet, interact and network with postdocs from different disciplines at Warwick. Sandy and Kate provided us with a very hands-on approach to learning about leadership and group dynamics. They really got their points across by giving us scenarios so we could practice developing our skills. It was definitely not boring, note-taking, sleepy sessions. Sandy and Kate designed their course to encourage us to interact, think, express our opinions and learn in a laid-back and supportive learning environment. It was great to take some time to get out of the lab and learn some important leadership skills that will certainly be useful for my career. I’m glad that I chose to take this course. After completing the Leadership in Action course, I take more notice to everyday leadership situations such as chaired meetings and presentations, group meetings and my collaborations. I am also more comfortable being involved in leadership roles."
Dr Mistianne Feeney - Research Fellow, Life Sciences
