Leadership in Staff Development

A HESDA-funded Leadership in Staff Development project, commencing in September 2001, explored the role of heads of staff development in a sample drawn initially from the M1/M69 group of institutions.  The project:

  •  identified key issues in the role of staff development leadership
  •  identified effective and ineffective behaviours
  • presented the above in a variety of appropriate forms for interested audiences
  • developed and tested a methodology for the analysis of the staff development leadership role
  • outlined ways in which the necessary skills might be developed

Following the successful completion of the initial project, a second stage was identified.  Work commenced in January 2003:

  • To provide a conceptual framework for problem setting and problem solving in the role
  • To produce a competency framework for the role
  • To distil key findings on how to operate effectively in this role
  • To engage in a reflective dialogue with role holders and other stakeholders to develop these findings
  • To present these findings in an accessible form to the staff/educational development community
