The JISC-funded X4L Programme is tackling the challenges of creating collections of re-usable electronic content for use nationally in HE and FE learning and teaching. This article outlines the purposes behind the programme and describes the range of developments funded. These include projects to develop: a learning materials repository or storage area; sophisticated tools to help teachers to locate, assemble, use and share materials that include content and assessment; and collections of learning objects and case studies to highlight and explore the issues around repurposing content and show how the repository can be used.
