Research-based Learning

Many modules, particularly in later years of undergraduate courses and masters level, include cutting edge research outcomes, but this type of content isn't appropriate as a main focus in all modules, and undergraduates sometimes find research inaccessible.

In Research-based learning, research is regarded as a theme which underpins teaching at a range of levels. As well as incorporating outcomes of research into curricula, it includes developing students' awareness of processes and methods of enquiry, and creating an inclusive culture of research involving staff and students.

Research with academic colleagues and students at Warwick has surfaced four main ways in which teaching and research are inter-linked, namely:

The four areas described provide a framework for the  identification of ways in which research activity surfaces in the curriculum and departmental teaching cultures.  

A growing area of research-process activities in the curriculum at Warwick is in the increased opportunities for undergraduates to be involved in the Scholarship of Engagement and in the Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme.
