Some students engage with a wide range of our practical, interactive workshops to develop their skills; for others, our value is in enabling them to build confidence or to develop a peer support network; while others are motivated by the opportunities we offer for new researchers to showcase excellence and receive recognition.
- The Research Student Skills Programme (RSSP) is the University’s main central source of professional development training for postgraduate research students. It features a broad range of research and transferable skills workshops, including a dedicated Academic Writing series. It also offers events for networking and sharing research, as well as online resources and one-to-one coaching.
- Career support for research students is available through one-to-one appointments (career guidance, job search advice, CV checks) as well as researcher-focussed workshops and events. Research students can also take advantage of careers fairs and employer-led workshops.
Our provision is voluntary and it requires students to participate actively and reflect on their own development.
Our research student development team welcomes queries and feedback from supervisors and students.
