2018 Teaching Excellence Celebration

Staff and students gathered together on 6 December to celebrate the success of Warwick’s outstanding educators. Hosted by Professor Christopher Hughes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), the evening was an excellent end to the year.

Winners and commendees of the 2018 Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence and Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence for Postgraduates who Teach were recognised. These individuals were nominated by students and colleagues from across the University for their commitment to the betterment of the student learning experience throughout Warwick. Their work has had a transformative effect on Warwick’s students and they join a network of over 150 members of the University community who are WATE and WATE PGR recipients.

Professor Gwen van der Velden, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Student Learning and Experience) and Director of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy, received a National Teaching Fellowship from AdvanceHE. She is one of only a handful of colleagues across the higher education sector to be awarded a National Teaching Fellowship. Gwen’s long-standing efforts to embed the student voice in all educational decisions were key to her nomination and success.

A new award scheme was also launched. Professor Louise Gracia, Dean of Students, announced the Warwick Awards for Personal Tutoring Excellence. This Award seeks to highlight and reward the work of Warwick’s extensive network of personal tutors whose efforts are key to the success of our students.

Nominations are now open for all three Awards. Full information can be found at www.warwick.ac.uk/wate
